Cannabis 101
Methods of Consumption
Have you ever walked into a dispensary, looked at the menu and felt overwhelmed? This is a common experience many people, whether new in the cannabis community or seasoned veterans, encounter. In today’s market there are so many categories of products and so many products within those categories that you may find yourself wondering where to begin. Before you start browsing for the right strain or the best chocolate however, let’s figure out which method of consumption works best for you.
Inhalation
The most common and recognized method of consumption is, you guessed it, inhalation. Inhaling cannabis allows THC and other active compounds to be absorbed into the bloodstream through the lungs and has an almost immediate on-set. For the longest time, smoking was the only way to inhale cannabis but as of late, vaping has popularized.
Smoking cannabis requires burning the flower and inhaling the smoke. There are a few ways you can smoke cannabis: pipes, water pipes/bongs, joints and blunts. Pipes tend to be small and compact making them very popular. You fill the bowl with flower, light it up and inhale from the other end. Water pipes and bongs work basically the same way however the smoke is filtered through water that rests in the chamber. Joints of course are made by rolling flower into rolling papers. And blunts are similar to joints however instead of paper, they are rolled with blunt wraps (often made from hemp).
Vaping
Vaping involves heating cannabis (or concentrates) to a temperature just below that of combustion and inhaling it. You can use vaporizers or vape pens to reach that perfect temperature.
